FRIENDS OF LETHERINGSETT MILLWHO ARE WE? |
We are a small, non-profit making group of people - young and not so young - with a common interest, an interest in all types of Norfolk Mills. We aim to promote an interest in and encourage the preservation and enhancement of Letheringsett Watermill the last working water powered mill in the county of Norfolk. We maintain close links with the Norfolk Windmills Trust based at County Hall in Norwich
The fund-raising activities are to assist Mike and Marion Thurlow with their exciting plans to develop the upper two floors of the watermill. The third floor is to display the photographic history of Letheringsett watermill and an imaginative display of the River Glaven and it's original watermills. The fourth floor or the school room, with it's Victorian feel, is to be developed to encourage learning with models and hands-on activities aimed at the youngsters and not so young.
Saturday 6th October 2007 saw the Official Opening of the upper two floors by Norman Lamb MP, North Norfolk but the development will be ongoing. The emphasis will be on milling from grain to bread, linking local agriculture and food production and renewable energy sources.
Letheringsett is a busy working mill, producing a variety of flours, many are from locally grown wheat but it needs help to promote an awareness of milling, it's skills and the importance of local food production to the community and especially youngsters, for benefit all. We need your help!
