FRIENDS OF LETHERINGSETT MILL

WHO ARE WE?

We are a small, non-profit making group of people - young and not so young - with a common interest, an interest in all types of Norfolk Mills.

We aim to promote an interest in and encourage the preservation and enhancement of Letheringsett Watermill the last working water powered mill in the county of Norfolk.

We maintain close links with the Norfolk Windmills Trust based at County Hall in Norwich

We have a hard working committee who meet several times to year to arrange talks, visits and social events for members and friends with fund-raising being an important part of the activities.

The fund-raising activities are to assist Mike and Marion Thurlow with their exciting plans to develop the upper two floors of the watermill. The third floor is to display the photographic history of Letheringsett watermill and an imaginative display of the River Glaven and it's original watermills. The fourth floor or the school room, with it's Victorian feel, is to be developed to encourage learning with models and hands-on activities aimed at the youngsters and not so young.

Saturday 6th October 2007 saw the Official_Opening of the upper two floors by Norman Lamb MP, North Norfolk but the development will be ongoing. The emphasis will be on milling from grain to bread, linking local agriculture and food production and renewable energy sources.

Letheringsett is a busy working mill, producing a variety of flours, many are from locally grown wheat but it needs help to promote an awareness of milling, it's skills and the importance of local food production to the community and especially youngsters, for benefit all.

We need your help!

This website is intended to:

Help promote the Friends of Letheringsett Mill (FLM) and its activities to the world

Help preserve and record this unique part of Norfolk's heritage

Act as a notice board to help publicise meetings, events and activities

Act as a recruitment centre to attract new members

WHAT DO WE DO?

A Varied Program of Talks, visits and social events for members of Friends of Letheringsett Mill, their families and friends is being arranged by our hard working committee.
Fund Raising. We promote and support Letheringsett projects through active publicity and fund raising. Events, such as cheese and wine evenings are held at intervals to raise funds for specific mill development or repair projects.
A Friends of Letheringsett Mill Newsletter will be produced on a regular basis packed full of news and information on the mill and other local mill related news. We actively encourage members to submit any mill related articles and photographs for publication in the newsletter. This is an excellent opportunity to share experiences with fellow molinologists!
The newsletter is distributed free of charge to all members.
Norfolk Mill Records Project - the preservation of Mill Related Records is taken seriously by the group. We aim to actively collect, digitally record (and return) photos, slides, documents etc preserved for future generations to enjoy. We are particularly looking for Norfolk mill related material from members or non-members that may be laying forgotten in drawers and attics etc.

For more details of the scheme see: Norfolk Mill Records Project
